Our Heritage Story
Some companies begin with a single product. Others begin with a single idea.
Labs traces its heritage through more than fifteen years of experimentation by founder Duránd F. Davis Jr.—from music and creative ventures, to research concepts, startup incubation, organizational design, and frontier intelligence.
Rather than the evolution of one company, this is the evolution of a philosophy: continually reimagining how ideas become enduring institutions. Maya’s design and architectural input leapfrogged a frontier intelligences-first ecosystem.
2009
Lavish Line Records
The journey begins with the registration of Lavish Line Records, an independent creative venture that introduced early thinking around ownership, branding, and building long-term intellectual property.
2012–2017
The Lavish Line Labs Concept
From 2012 to 2017, research expanded beyond entertainment into technology, experimentation, and multidisciplinary innovation — an incubation stage worked like a startup out of a Detroit co-working space. The idea of “Labs” emerged as a framework for exploring many domains of intelligence rather than a single product, laying the groundwork for LavLabs.
2018
LavLabs
LavLabs was established as a startup studio to transform research and ideas into ventures, products, and intellectual property—laying much of the organizational foundation that would later influence Labs.
2020
Reimagining the Architecture
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Duránd and Maya Davis fundamentally rethought how a technology company could be organized—not around individual products, but around a family of specialized laboratories advancing different frontiers of intelligence. This became the conceptual blueprint for Labs.
2024
The Vision Takes Shape
The Labs architecture was formally conceived alongside an initial $7.5 million in founder, friends, and family commitments, establishing the financial and strategic foundation for building the organization.

2025
Labs Companies
Labs Companies officially launched as a frontier intelligence holding organization, with LavLabs becoming one of its operating laboratories. The company completed its first priced financing rounds, raising an additional $57.5 million to accelerate research, infrastructure, and product development.
2026
Early Frontier Systems
Labs began the early rollout of Yuhmmy alongside its AI Orchestration Engine (AOE), providing select early adopters with the company’s first integrated frontier intelligence experiences.
Before Labs, there were years of experimentation across creativity, technology, entrepreneurship, and research. Each chapter contributed to the ideas, systems, and philosophy that would ultimately shape what is known today as Labs. After all, as the saying often attributed to Eddie Cantor reminds us —
“It takes twenty years to make an overnight success.”
